April 2023 Bank Holidays: State-Wise List of 15 Days Banks Will Be Closed

As of April 1, 2023, the start of the next fiscal year, there will be significant changes in the banking schedule that customers should be aware of.

In particular, individuals should take note of the bank holidays in April 2023 and make arrangements for their bank visits accordingly, bearing in mind that holidays vary depending on the state in which they reside.

During April 2023, banks will be closed for 15 days across the states, including bank closing days, regional holidays, Sundays, and the second and fourth Saturdays.

Bank holidays fall under three categories: holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and banks’ Closing of Accounts.

Banks will be closed on April 1, which is a Saturday, for the yearly closing, except in the states of Mizoram, Chandigarh, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh.

On April 4, Tuesday, banks will be closed in Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Lucknow, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand for Mahavir Jayanti. Banks will also be closed on April 5, Wednesday, in Hyderabad for Babu Jagjivan Ram’s Birthday.

Good Friday falls on April 7, Friday, and banks will be closed in most states, except for Tripura, Gujarat, Assam, Rajasthan, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, and Srinagar.

On April 14, Friday, banks will be closed in most states for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Bohag Bihu, Cheiraoba, Vaisakhi, Baisakhi, Tamil New Year’s Day, Maha Bisubha Sankranti, Biju Festival, and Buisu Festival, except in Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, and Himachal Pradesh.

Banks will also be closed on April 15, Saturday, for Vishu, Bohag Bihu, Himachal Day, and Bengali New Year’s Day (Nababarsha) in Tripura, Assam, Kerala, Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh.

On April 18, Tuesday, banks will be closed in Jammu and Srinagar for Shab-l-Qadr, and on April 21, Friday, they will be closed in Tripura, Jammu and Srinagar, and Kerala for Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan Eid), Garia Puja, and Jumat-ul-Vida.

Finally, on April 22, Saturday, banks will be closed due to the fourth Saturday falling on Ramzan Eid (Eid-Ul-Fitr).
